The new Radisson hotel at Stansted airport is providing much needed accommodation for the rapidly growing airport. Indeed, with 20 airlines, 124 scheduled destinations, 20.5 million passengers per annum and plans to build a second runway by 2012 to cope with growing international demand, Stansted is the fourth busiest airport in the UK, the fastest growing major airport in Europe and the main home of the leading low-cost scheduled airlines.
The Radisson Stansted is adjacent to the airport terminal and connected by a covered walkway that takes just three minutes to walk. The 500 bedrooms are themed in 3 unique styles: Urban, Ocean and Chilli with views of the airport and runway. Featuring the latest technology, amenities include high-speed Internet access, LCD televisions with satellite channels and a personal laptop safe.
The hotel has four individually designed restaurants: the Wine Tower Restaurant at the heart of the hotel featuring the spectacular wine tower; Filini offering a diverse selection of Italian style pastas and pizzas; Tapaell’ya for authentic tapas and paella and the New York style grill & bar.
The new 4-star hotel has installed an amazing way of storing and delivering wine bottles. The wine tower is the first to be installed in Europe. It is placed in the hotel’s atrium and is 13 metres high. It is split into pods of 12 bottles each and enables the individual pod to be held at a different temperature so each type of wine can be stored at the correct temperature.
The whole installation holds circa 4,000 bottles. Access to the wine is by wine angels a winch system has been installed and the hotel employs acrobats to fly up to the tower to collect the bottle and return to the bar. The tower provides a central point for people meeting before visiting one of the four restaurants. The hotel is finding many people ordering wine just to see the performance though it is yet to be proved whether the extra income justifies the £500,000 installation!
The new kitchen is just as impressive with a total investment of no less than £350,000! Completely furnished with the latest Electrolux solutions, the kitchen features an amazing back-to-back gas operated S90 modular cooking suite for double sided operation, a set of four 20 and 10 grid air-o-steam® combi ovens and two 60 litre thermaline boiling and bratt pans. Smart refrigerated counters and upright fridges make up the food conservation area and food preparation is aided by tabletop dynamic preparation equipment including vegetable washer, cutters and bowl mixer. The dishwashing room is furbished with an RT 150 rack type dishwasher. Electrolux Food Service has been working with Radisson for some time now.
