Oxford & Buckinghamshire Mental Health Trust, a provider of mental health services in Oxfordshire and the surrounding areas, recently awarded BETTAquip Ltd with a contract to supply a new production kitchen and servery at Littlemore Hospital.
The project had to be completed within a very short timeframe of just six weeks in order to ensure that Littlemore Hospital would be able to fulfil a number of pre-booked events. BETTAquip was quick to understand that this constraint meant that performance and delivery were the key project requirements. Meeting the six week deadline was an even greater challenge as the installation of the foodservice equipment had to integrated with an extensive programme of building works.
The brief given was to design and install a kitchen and servery with the capability of doubling the food production capacity. To meet this brief BETTAquip designed a solution which maximised the available space by extending the production kitchen into the existing servery area and relocating the servery area within the dining area.
The scope of the works included the installation of a new air handling system with a central island extraction canopy and tempered input air. New Electrolux Prime cooking equipment were incorporated into a central island and featured two 20 grid combination ovens, two bratt pans, two solid top burner ovens and two fryers. A fabricated preparation area and chilled preparation area were installed and included refrigerated preparation tables, an Electrolux fabrication, an 80 litre mixer and a vegetable preparation machine. Two 20 grid 100KG Blast Chillers with remote compressors were also installed.
Despite the time constraints and complex nature of the installation, BETTAquip completed the project on time and on budget. The facility is now used by visitors and staff and is proving to be a popular canteen.
Steve Warner, the catering manager at Oxford & Buckinghamshire Mental Health Trust commented: “We appointed BETTAquip because of its commercially minded approach and because the company was able to supply a complete design and installation service. I am delighted with the finished outcome and believe that BETTAquip performed exceedingly well to complete the installation on time and within budget”.
BETTAquip have quoted on other projects because of the success of the Littlemore Hospital job.
